GORESBROOK SCHOOL ‘BIG BAND’ PROJECT

The Foundation proudly sponsors the Goresbrook School ‘Big Band’ programme in Barking & Dagenham for the academic year 2018-2019. Started in September 2017 thanks to a grant from the Andrew Lloyd Webber foundation, this programme project ensures that every student between the ages of 11 and 14, no matter their economic background, has the opportunity to master a musical instrument during their time in school and play in a Big Band. Barking and Dagenham being the 3rd most deprived borough in London and the 12th most deprived local authority in the UK, the access to musical instrumental tuition to young people living in the area is compromise. This initiative will beneficiate over 200 school children enabling to learn either a woodwind, brass or rhythm section ensemble setting and play as a group, learn as group with each section coming together regularly to play as a 30 piece Big Band. Our grant will go towards instrumental tuition, musical instruments and equipment for one year enabling them to move the project into a sustainability position over the coming years.
