Essex Music Services – part of Essex County Council – is the lead partner in Essex Music Education Hub which is supported by funding from the Department for Education which comes via Arts Council England. Along with partner organisations that make up the Hub, they offer a range of musical services, projects and opportunities throughout Essex schools and within the community.

Essex Music Education Hub run a successful monthly Jazz Academy and weekly Jazz Groups in Colchester, Essex. As a way to expand their existing ensemble groups, Essex music Education Hub are organising a series of inspirational projects in 6 deprived schools in and around Colchester, Essex. These will take place throughout the Summer 2019 in attempt to generate more interest in their wide range of ensembles as well as open more opportunities to young people who cannot afford to attend. Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation will contribute to the success of these events encouraging inclusion and allowing the organisers to enable children and young people to attend the events free if charge.

Following this engagement through the Summer term, all students will then be offered free attendance at the weekly jazz sessions in the Colchester Music School including Jazz Rhythm Group, Jazz Junior/Senior Band and Jazz Theory class. In addition, they will offer free individual tuition to 8 gifted and talented children identified through the project that do not currently have the resources to afford tuition.

It is expected that up to 550 children aged 7-15 will be engaged through assemblies and masterclasses, as a result of this project.
